Incentives designed to stimulate the take-up of electric vehicles have been announced in the Chancellor's 2009 Pre-Budget Report.
The benefit-in-kind charge for private use of company-provided electric vehicles will change for a period of five years from 6 April, 2010, with company car tax (CCT) reduced to 0% and company van tax (CVT) falling to nil rate. Businesses will also be able to claim a 100% first-year allowance for the purchase of electric vans.
In addition, the Class 1A National Insurance Contributions charge on employers for electric cars and vans will be nil.
