HGV Testing Exemptions

HGV Testing

Transport Minister, Paul Clark, has published a consultation on proposals to remove a number of exemptions from the Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) roadworthiness testing scheme. Annual testing exemptions covering 10 categories of vehicle are under review.

The move comes in response to concerns about road safety, as well as questions of fairness between operators, raised by the increasing number of exempt vehicles. In addition, the UK has an obligation to ensure compatibility between the list of exempt vehicle classes and EU law on testing.

The consultation closes on 19 March, 2010.
