Dangerous drivers could face up to five years in jail under tough new penalties proposed by Justice Minister, Jack Straw. The current maximum jail term for dangerous driving is two years.
The move comes after a campaign by the parents of toddler Cerys Edwards, who was paralysed by a car travelling at more than 70mph in a 30mph zone.
Mr Straw said: 'We have listened with great care to the innocent victims of dangerous drivers, their families and road safety groups and their experiences have directly informed these changes.'
